X-MEN CAFETERIA

For the most part, the mansion's cafeteria resembles the average self-serve school dining hall. It is spacious and well-lit with a somewhat cool, industrial look to it, as all of the ductwork and beams overhead were left exposed, but were painted the same unobtrusive, light grey color as the walls to make everything appear cohesive. The floors are covered with what appears to be individual tiles, although it's actually a heavy-duty concrete product manufactured to take a real beating and still look nice. The most important aspect of the Cafeteria, the food, is laid-out along a counter than runs along the eastern wall of the room. Along that same wall in the door to the X-Men Kitchen 1st, where the major stores of food are kept and prepared for the students. At one corner is the entrance to the Cafeteria, coming from X-Men West 1st. The west and north-facing walls of the eating commons are adorned with tall windows, and there is also a set of French doors along the latter of the two that lead out to the X-Men Pools.

X-Men Time

Monday, May 25th

With a metallic click and short hiss, the cap of Devlin's third beer was twisted off. He took a long draw of the cool amber beverage and smacked his lips together. Despite its reputation back in England, he had to admit that he was enjoying this brand of beer. He'd given up on moping around, a colonial among patriots, and instead had decided that a party was a party.

'And one time, Cynthia actually got goopy marshmallow stuck in my hair during one camping trip, and my parents thought that maybe they could, like, freeze it out of my hair, you know, like you do with bubblegum, but ALL the ICE had melted, and I ended-up having to get this, like, totally horrific haircut with the pair of fingernail scissors my mom happened to have in her purse,' Valerie offered without pause as she slipped into the kitchen from X-Men West 1st, her attention back over her shoulder at those who might still be coming along with her. 'We were having a flaming marshmallow stick-sword fight, so I guess that's not the worse that could have happened, but it was still pretty embarrassing!'

"Sugar burns do scar like hell," Faro conceded, following Valerie in to the cafeteria from the west hall. She spotted a guy with ridiculously long legs knocking back beers and felt her stomach twitch. No thanks, she decided, coming to the realisation that her body definitely had had enough of alcohol for one day.

Devlin spotted two girls walk in, and not really knowing who they were (kinda recognising Faro), raised his bottle above his head in welcome. "The more the merrier!" he called, followed by a quiet belch - he had been drinking the beers down pretty quickly and the bubbles were still settling in his gut. "Pull up a pew and give this poor Brit an ounce of pity, for he is in a foreign land."

By the time the group had made it into the kitchen, Nadine had managed to muster up enough courage to speak up again as well. "I've never been camping for real before, but Ulric and I used to pretend camp in our foster parents backyard when I was really little. He'd set up a tent and a campfire for us and we'd imagine that we had run away and were hiding out in the woods so no one could find us-" Her story cut off upon seeing Devlin, with whom she wasn't very familiar with, and she inched behind the older girls ever so slightly.

Mark stayed silent as he listened to the story. He had not been camping himself and was not sure what to say to add to the conversation. That's when they arrived at Devlin. He scanned his files for information but not much came up on the boy.

'Yeeeeah,' Valerie cooed to Faro, louder at first, and softer at the finish of the sound, her mouth screwed-up to one side as she fell silent. 'We were lucky we didn't, like, really get hurt.' Pausing she added in a more chipper manner to Devlin, 'awww, then you should come outside with us! I bet the humidity is down and maybe even the fireflies are out!' Casting a genuine smile to Nadine, she offered, 'Well, maybe we could go camping under the stars, sometime. Plenty of places to go here in the surrounding forest, I bet!'

Faro nodded at Val's invitation to Devlin, showing her added consent. "As you said, 'the more the merrier'. We're heading down to the lake to see who's still hanging out there." She was considering the guy - she'd definitely met him before, but not really spent time around him. Those legs were hard to forget, taking up much of his height. There was something about the proportions that didn't work in her mind, and left her feeling like he was less human than her.

"Very kind of you," Devlin said, grinning at the assembled group and standing. He tucked what was left of his case of beers under one arm, swigging from his open bottle with the other. "The lake, huh? Sounds like a plan, Stan. Anyone fancy a beerski while we're here, by the way?" he inquired, shaking his own half-full bottle at the others.

"Whew! Finally caught back up with you guys!" Liz faintly said as she phased back into the physical world behind Mark. "Sorry about the disappearance and not showing up for awhile, I still havent fully adjusted to using that reactors excess energy. But im back now! Hopefully for awhile, its soooo boring being all alone." She leaned down behind Mark, draping her arms down around his neck, and placing her chin over his shoulder knowing full well that it would make him feel awkward. She was obviously very bored and needed someone to harmlessly mess with. "Did ya miss me? I heard you guys mention going to the lake, that would be so fun!....Ohhhh beer, gimme!" She demanded with an odd sense of innocence, holding her hand out towards Devlin.

"I was wondering if you would be back." Mark sighed he had honestly gotten used to the ghost girl, apart from early on when she seemed to pop up when ever she felt was embarrassing for him, like the shower. Her arms draped around him and it took him a full five seconds to register his own discomfort. "Close, too close." He muttered with a shake of his shoulders, though his pale skin might have shown a bit of a blush to any on lookers who paid enough attention. He wheeled forward a bit to try and dislodge her. "Can an ethereal spirit even consume liquids?"

Flashing Faro a brief grin, then glancing back to Devlin, Valerie sweetly declared, 'Oh, gosh; no thank you, though!' her hands held up slightly, palms-out, in front of her, and similarly took note of the foreign fellow's different-than-average proportions. It was only for an exceedingly short moment, however, for Val cast her attention toward Mark and Liz, mentally shook her head, and decided to head out to the X-Men Pools before she could find out whether ghosts could hold a beer bottle or not, and tried to nudge Nadine along the way, hoping to rouse a response from the seemingly quiet teenager.

Despite having just seen the ghostly girl a little while earlier, Nadine still jumped and let out a muted squeak when Liz popped back into existence behind Mark, thankful at least that it wasn't her the pseudo spirit was following around. The event caused her to forget to respond to Valerie's offer about going camping, which had sounded like fun, especially since the older girl was so nice to her. Her mouth opened to respond, only to close again as Liz went on an excited ramble before declaring her for the beer as she watched and wondered whether the ghost girl was old enough, then if age counted even after death for her or if only the age she died at mattered when it came to drinking ages, followed by the same thought that Mark had voiced, which, if she wasn't alive then maybe she couldn't get drunk anyway- before Val gently urged her away from the craziness and out to the X-Men Pools, for which Nadine was very grateful.
